Expansion of an aluminium tube in a steel flange
Experiment no.: 9.1.9
An aluminium tube is pre-cooled with liquid nitrogen and then inserted into a steel flange. While warming to room temperature, the tube becomes firmly stuck in the steel flange.
Caution: Experiment with LN2 (eye damage and cold injuries possible)!
