Air pressure difference on a plate
Experiment no.: 8.4.6
A plate covered with a plastic foil lies on the floor. If one pulls the plate up slowly with a cord, one can lift it. However, if one pulls it up quickly, the cord will rip!
In the last case, the air cannot flow under the plastic foil and plate quickly enough, so that the air pressure under the plate is much lower than above the plate. Due to this pressure difference on the plate, the cord rips.
