Model gyro compass

Experiment no.: 2.3.6
Modell Kreiselkompass
This experiment illustrates the principle of the gyro compass. A heavy, very fast rotating gyro is rotatably mounted about an axis, which in turn is attached to the ground and stands perpendicular to the Earth's surface. The gyro tries to align its axis of rotation as closely as possible to the north-south direction.

Caution: Experiment with possible eye damage!
Personal protective equipment necessary!
