Energy conservation with interference

White light is transmitted through an adjustable interference filter that can be positioned at various angles. The light reflected at the interference filter can be overlaid with the transmitted light using a mirror. If the filter is adjusted, the colours of the transmitted and reflected light change, but their sum always gives white light.
