Spontaneous synchronization with metronomes

Four metronomes are placed on a stationary base and started with the same number of beats but different phases. In this case, the metronomes retain their arbitrary phase.
However, if the metronomes are placed on a freely movable base, they are weakly coupled to each other via this base. The metronomes then oscillate in phase after a short time; they have synchronized themselves.
