Maxwell wheel on scale

If you place a Maxwell wheel on a scale, you can not only demonstrate the mutual conversion of potential energy into kinetic energy (translation and rotation), but also observe that the scale shows less weight as long as the wheel is rotating!
The scale shows less weight both when rolling down and rolling up, as the wheel is always falling in both cases. However, this is not a free fall due to the mounting of the wheel. Due to its rotational movement, the acceleration of the wheel is less than the acceleration due to gravity in free fall.
